Row of four Queen Anne cottages

1609 and 1611 Bay St. built in 1892

1613 and 1615 Bay St. built in 1891

Architect: Marcuse & Remmel

Builder: Marcuse & Remmel

Cost: $2,300-$2,000

This row of four speculative houses displays Marcuse & Remmel’s rapid evolution in style in the early 1890s. The pair on the left represent a popular model introduced in 1892, while the less expensive cottages on the right are typical of the firm’s early work. It’s hard to believe that these two pairs came out of the same office.
