Row on the 1600 block of Sherman Street

Built in 1894

Architect: Marcuse & Remmel

Builder: Marcuse & Remmel

Cost: $2,150-$3,200

Felix Marcuse’s brother-in-law, Max Walter, commissioned this row of six speculative cottages—delightful Queen Anne confections by Marcuse & Remmel with varied ornamental schemes. Note that 1611 seems to be missing, but it’s there. It was moved back on the lot during World War II and remodeled as apartments. The decorative front was removed to incorporate an interior staircase.
