High Basement Transitional Queen Anne to Colonial Revival - Built in 1898 by Alameda Land Company Cost $2,100

Here is the only example on our tour of a High Basement transitional Queen Anne-Colonial Revival Cottage (not a two story) There are many examples throughout Alameda and the East Bay. This particular house does not have the standard small dormer on the front of the hipped roof, but it does have the characteristic “triple lap” siding. The columns are especially graceful, a holdover from the Queen Anne style.

\* The Alameda Land Company was founded in 18922 by Robert E. Mott. His interests also included the Bay Shore Lumber Company on the Oakland Estuary. Mott's company played the role of both architect and builder, and you'll find 61 homes built by the company all around Alameda.
